The four criteria, scored individually
Task Achievement / Response
For Writing Task 1 (Academic), the checker evaluates whether you summarised the main features of the visual without unnecessary detail. For Task 2, it evaluates how fully you addressed the prompt, the position you took, and whether your supporting ideas are developed.
Coherence and Cohesion
Paragraph structure, logical flow, and the use of cohesive devices (referencing, substitution, conjunctions) without overuse - the second-most-common reason candidates lose half a band.
Lexical Resource
Range of vocabulary, accurate word choice, collocation, and the appropriate use of less-common lexis. The checker highlights repeated words and suggests upgrades calibrated to your target band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
Variety of sentence structures (simple, complex, compound-complex), appropriate use of subordinate clauses, and error density. Sentence-level highlights show where errors occur and why they pulled the band down.
